The Final Five Begins...

Now I am 35 weeks pregnant and am in the final five countdown. I just finished writing my birth plan, which I will review with my doula on Thursday G-d willing. I am feeling much better since my fall this past Thursday, except for some pains in my knees still, but it's not too bad unless I bump them into something. I also heard back from my family doc regarding the UTI thing and blood glucose test. The blood thing was ok I think. Came back at four the secretary said. (the canadian scale is different than US so I have no clue what 4 means.) I think it was mostly the urinalysis that he is callng me back for. This actually annoys me as he is either calling me in to a. give me a prescription, and I have to wait until Wednesday to see him. or B. he considers it not a clean catch and I have to do the urine sample all over again. Just give me a prescription for macribid already!! Sigh. I am having crampiness around my bladder area today pretty bad and it burned like hell when I went to the washroom. Soon macrobid is contraindicted as I will be at 36 weeks next week (you can't take it in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy. I forgot the reason why..I need to check my father in law's pharmacy book (he is a pharmacist). I think it's something to do with G-d forbid potentially causing a problem with the baby in the liver if taken in last 4 weeks but I need to double check on that). Anyway, I am just a bit grouchy from the bladder pain, so don't mind me :).

I think I am also a bit grouchy today as I had a big clean up job to do thanks to my daughter being quite messy and inventive with trouble making this past shabbos. My daughter emptied an entire container of soup croutons onto the carpet, causing a sea of yellow mandelin covering the entire corner of the carpet. Don't ask how long it took me to clean it up :)

In other news, my itty bitty is standing up now all by himself without holding on to anything! :) I am so proud of him. That means soon he will be walking IY"H. :) He is getting to be such a big boy :) My other two are so affectionate with him and it's very cute to watch.

I will post more later this week, probably after my appointment with my doula. I have to find out when I can start taking the Cauliphyllum thalictroides, a homeopathic remedy of blue cohosh which helps get your body ready for labour. (my doula is also a herbalist) Probably I will start it a week or two before my due date. Last time I started it too early and ended up with annoying painful contractions that led to no where. (though when labour did begin, it went really fast :) I got to the hospital at 9 cm.) Anyway, that's it for now. We are supposed to visit the great bubbe today, so I better start getting ready.

My ultrasound appoinment

I fell. Right outside the building for my ultrasound appointment, on my way in. Black ice. My father in law had pulled up to the curb, and I did not see the ice on the pavement. I got out of the car to go into the building and found myself flat on the ground. I had a very difficult time getting up too, being I am almost 35 weeks pregnant. Good thing I was getting an ultrasound done anyways or I would have been even more freaked out than I already was. I am so sore right now. My back, arms and legs are sore, but my right knee is particularly painful. I am worried about a possible placental abruption, but the ultrasound showed no evidence of that, though it may take time for it to show up. ( I had one last pregnancy thanks to a broken side walk and am now really scared of getting another one. It can be potentially dangerious for mother and baby, I was on bed rest for a month and it had healed thank G-d. ) G-d willing I will be just fine, despite the soreness of everything. I am just being my usual worrywart self. :)

Anyway, let's get to the good happy part. The ultrasound. :) The gender I was told at 18 weeks has been confirmed :) So far, the estimated weight is 4 lb 15 oz at this stage. I guess that is a normal size. I usually have big babies. I will ask my OB about that at my next appointment. I got a peek at the babe. I feel reassured that the fall didn't harm the baby B"H. but I am still feeling crappy and shook up about it. I told the ultrasound office what happened, and they called the property manager who said it is the building next door's responsibility to the outside maintanence, and that someoen would come salt the ice patches. I hope they got around to it fast before another person slips and gets hurt. They are lucky I am not a sue happy person and I am ok or else they could have had a nice law suit on their hands. I am feeling pretty sore right now so I am signing off this post. I think I want to lay down and rest for a bit and maybe take a tylenol. I will post more either over the weekend or next week after my appointment with my doula.

It's Getting Close!

I had my 34 week check up today. Everything is ok B"H. I do have to go tomorrow for an ultrasound, to measure fetal growth and get an estimated fetal weight. I wonder if I am having a monster sized baby as I feel huge LOL. I guess I will find out tomorrow. I will hopefully also find out to see if the gender I was told I am having at my 18 week ultrasound is accurate. We'll see :) I still won't tell the gender though. It is more fun to leave people guessing up until the baby is born :)

I always thought that ultrasounds were not accurate in measuring fetal weight but I must be mistaken. I had read that in my pregnancy newsgroup, and also my doula had mentioned something to me about that I think. She also told me she recently read that they did some studies that showed epidurals may possibly cause a mild stroke in utero to the baby, but I want to find out percentages..some numbers, so I can base my decision to get one or not on that. People have epidurals every day and in most cases the babies are fine. I would actually like to read the study she read myself. I had an epidural for two out of my three births. In both times, they had a very hard time finding a place to put it as I have scoliosis..a 26 degree curve which is not at all noticiable, (I was in a brace for two years when I was a teenager) unless you are a doctor trying to give me an epidural. :) They kept hitting bone, and my little itty bitty was actually crowning by the time they got the epidural in. It was actually a spinal I got in the end as it was faster acting than the epidural. So I don't even know if its worth it to get an epidural this time. But I have a history of retained placenta and find it very hard to hold still for the ob to remove the pieces manually just after giving birth, as the after pains are very painful. If I have a spinal or epidural, I can't feel the doc do that and I lie perfectly still like a good girl :). But on the downside, I am stuck flat on my back for eight hours which stinks. I hate being confined. In any case, I am meeting with my doula next Thursday to go over some final details and plans for the birth, and what to do if I have the baby on Shabbos, etc etc. I also called my rav to find out what is ok to do or not to do if in the hospital on shabbos. Last time, I had my itty bitty an hour before shabbos and was stuck in the hospital for the whole shabbos. My roomate kept shutting off the light in the bathroom when she was finished. It is quite difficult to pee in the pitch black darkness :) So I am waiting to hear back from my rabbi to see what is ok and not ok to do in the hospital on shabbos.

In other news, my next ob appointment is on December 8, where I will G-d willing be 36 weeks pregnant. After that appointment, I will be going weekly until I give birth. I will post more IY"H after my ultrasound tomorrow.

My Itty-Bitty Is Turning One Today!!

My little itty-bitty is turning one today! One year ago today, about this time of day (early morning), my water broke. I remember it quite distinctly as my then 3 year old (now 4) was being wild, and doing something he wasn't supposed to (I forget now what that was) I remember that I was yelling, "hey stop it now!" and felt a gush. Time really goes so fast. I am 34 weeks pregnant today B"H with #4 and my water better stay intact :) well, for the next 3 weeks or so at least anyway..

We aren't really doing anything special today for my little one's 1st birthday. Birthday parties were getting too costly, and the clean up afterwards was getting to be too much. I will just wish my little itty-bitty a happy first birthday and cuddle up with my yummy baby and read him a book and play some toys with him so he can have some alone time with his mommy. :)

In other news, my four year old's double ear infection seems to be better. He is back to himself now B"H, though he still seems a bit kvetchy. He still has a few days left on his antibiotics. My daughter got conjunctivitis though :( The prescription eye drops seems to be helping though.

My 34 week OB check up is this Wednesday. I will post more later in the week.

Telemarketing calls are so annoying!

Arg! I feel like unplugging all the phones in my house right now. Stupid annoying telemarketers are really starting to tick me off with their phone calls tonight. I called Bell finally and asked them if there is a way to stop these calls, and they put my number on a removal list for telemarketer calls. I am busy taking care of my kids, I am almost 9 months pregnant, and I am tired of running to the phone to discover all it is is some annoying pushy telemarketer trying to tell me I have won a "holiday vacation" where I can sit and get pushed into a time share and in return "win" a free vacation. I used to be very polite to these people but when you say no and they keep pushing, it really gets annoying. Maybe there is a bunch of mother in laws employed as telemarketers, I really don't know LOL. I am in such a grouchy mood tonight...pregnancy hormones. Next time a telemarketer calls, I am just going to hand the phone to my four year old or 2 1/2 yeaer old and let one of them talk to the telemarketer LOL. I wonder if they will finally take me off their call list after that. Maybe I will just ask them for their phone number so I can call them at home when they are trying to cook dinner, entertain their kids, and clean the house all at the same time.

In other news. my four year old has a double ear infection today, poor kid :( He is on amoxicillin now, and hopefully he will feel better soon. He also had his appointment today with the developmental pediatrician and B"H is doing much better. We bought a reading program from the doc, he has some used copies, 80 bucks! the new ones were 179 american.. So we bought the used one.. So expensive otherwise. It is kind of like hooked on phonics but the doc said it is much better than that. He is very happy with the progress and feels he will do well in junior kindergarten in September. My four year old seemed so happy at the developmental pediatrician's office that I had no idea he had an ear infection. He did not have any fever at all. It was only when we got close to home, after I dropped off his camp application that he started acting really cranky and not himself. Then he told me his ear hurts, so we took him to our regular pediatrician.

As an aside, the camp director wants to assess my four year old himself to see how much he has improved. He doesn't take my word that he doesn't need a one on one worker for the upcoming summer camp session. I don't feel he needs a one on one worker this upcoming summer. He will IY"H be attending a regular junior kindergarten without any assistance. He is a completely normal, he just had a speech delay and was frustrated that he had trouble communicating, which both B"H have greatly improved. Last year, he did give the one on one worker a bit of a hard time as he had his own agenda, but he has really calmed down since then, as his speech has really taken off. His teachers were amazed at how much calmer and how much better he is speaking this school term.

Anyway, I am done rambling now. I am really tired and the screen is starting to look blurry. I am going to my family doc on Wednesday to see if I do have a UTI or if its the babe to be pressing into my bladder. My little one who will soon be one on Sunday will be getting his flu shot then too.

Circus anyone?

We just came back from the Barnum and Bailey Circus. We had a blast. The kids really enjoyed themselves, even the baby (not the one in utero, the one that is going to be 1 year old next Sunday). The babe clapped his hands and babbled happily during some of the show. He slept through most of it though. The other two had a good time though they did fidget a lot and attempt to kick the seat in front of them...normal kid stuff. I guess it was kind of long for a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 year old to sit through. (It was a 2 hour show). But they were pretty good for the most part. My daughter expecially loved the elephants! :) She was so excited by them. I think it was her favourite part of the show. My oldest son seemed to like the trapeeze artists and the daredevils a lot. My husband liked the daredevils on the motorcycles, and I thought the contortionist is pretty cool. My daughter got a bit overstimulated by all the excitement and lack of a nap, and had a bit of a meltdown as we were exiting the arena when the show ended. I actually don't blame her. I was about to have a melt down myself because of the overwhelming crowd that was forming, and they were pushing to all go out the exit. I wish I could have joined my daugther at that point LOL. All in all, we had a pretty good time at the circus and hope to go back in a few years.

In other news, I had my 32 week prenatal appointment on Thursday. I am now officlally 33 weeks as of this past Saturday. Everything was okay at my check up. No sugar or protein in the urine B"H. Blood pressure good. No weight gain. So all in all I have gained about 25 lbs with this pregnancy. Not bad at all. I just look huge at this stage of the pregnancy, so I am assuming this baby must be big. Every time it moves I see a huge lump going side to side LOL. My first two were pretty big, 8 lb 7 oz, and 8 lb 12 oz. The youngest was 7 lb 6 oz. So, we'll see what happens. I am slightly worried this baby will be oversized because of the borderline gestational diabetes, but that is me just being a worrywart probably. I will ask my ob when i see him next Wednesday.
I am still sick with a cold. (I am blaming the flu shot still for this.) It has developed into laryngitis. I also feel a lot of pain in my bladder, and I am not sure if its pressure from the baby or I have a UTI so I think I may see my family doc this week sometime.

Tomorrow we have an appointment with the developmental pediatrician for our oldest, to follow up with his speech delay. He is doing so much better, so I hope this will be one of the last appointments. We are also visiting the kids' great bubbe, and dropping off the camp registration form for our oldest. You don't want to know what they are charging. I am still in shock from the price, but I know it will be worth it. Our oldest went last year to this camp and his speech really took off and he became much more calmer. He had a blast. So we are G-d willing sending back this summer for another session. Now we just have to work on getting him to use the potty all the time, and hopefully that won't be so hard. We've been working at it for months but my son takes after me with being a bit strong willed. The pediatrician said he has to want to use the potty, so I am trying to find ways to help him want to. I offered to buy him a toy if he makes in the potty. So we'll see what happens.

feeling yucky today...

I don't know if it is a side effect from the flu shot I got last Monday or not but I have been sick since Thursday, a few days after getting the vaccine. I think I remember reading on the paper I signed before getting the shot about it saying it may cause some aches and pains, a cold, afterwards. (it was worth having the vaccine though because I tend to get bronchitis very badly and end up on puffers to breathe when I get the flu, which I would like to avoid this year. Last year, shortly after having kid #3, I caught the flu, had 104 degree temp, couldn't stop throwing up, and had bronchitis. Was definitely not fun) My hubby caught my cold a few days later, and now has a terrible sore throat. I hope the kids don't catch it. We are supposed to go to the circus G-d willing this Sunday, and we have waited over a month for the big day. I am also feeling pretty tired too today and really out of it, but that is probably normal being I am 32 weeks pregnant, and my head is also stuffy from the cold. I would be happy right now if I could just breathe through my nose. UGH. I am just so cranky and tired today. Now I know how my kids sometimes LOL.

The Attack of the Terrible Twos

My daughter is definitely going through her terrible twos this week. She is 2 1/2 years old, a normally sweet and good natured little girl who rarely ever cried or threw a tantrum. I think she is now possessed or something LOL.. She has been very tantrumy (Is that even a real word? :) all week. I think it may be because there is a lot of talk about the baby to be (I am due in 8 weeks G-d willing) and I think she is quite jealous. Also, she is very jealous that her older brother goes to school and she has to stay home. Next year she will be going to nursery school, but thats not helpful now. She grabbed her brother's glasses off his face and tried to twist them; she grabbed his kippah off his head and ran away with it upstairs, she threw a metal red tonka trunk at my leg when I told her no cookie until after lunch, which thankfully missed my leg, or else I would be hobbling around. I find she mostly has tantrums during transitions, like when we are getting into the stroller to go to school, or leaving a store, or upon picking up her brother from school and we leave the school to go home. I keep telling myself, this too shall pass LOL. I know it's just a phase, but I can't wait for my sweet little girl to return to her happy almost all the time self.

In other news, my sinus tachycardia is gone B"H! :) I don't have to return to the cardiologist for another appointment thank G-d. I got the lecture from him though about my borderline blood sugar..blah blah blah. I saw my labour coach/doula afterwards and she gave me an eating guideline to help keep m bloodsugar stable. I am supposed to eat every 2 1/2 hours. She gave me a list of foods to avoid and a list that are fine to have. So far, even though its the first day I think everything seems to be going well. I booked an appointment with her for when I will be nine months, in the beginning of December. At that time we will go over my birth plan and any questions I have, and what to do if I go into labour on Shabbos. (I am due on Shabbos). My next appointment with my OB is on Thursday. I will post more after my appointment unless something interesting happens between now and then.

calgon....take me awaaaaaaay...........

I have visions of taking a nice long warm bubble bath while reading a good novel in my head. Even though right now i wouldn't fit in the tub LOL. (just kidding..well I am 31weeks pregnant now :P) I think I have had a day from hell today. Ok, well it wasn't thaaat bad..but it was bad enough that we had take out for dinner tonight. :)

First off, my daughter, who is 2 1/2 years old, is having a case of the terrible twos this morning. When the other 2 kids are loaded up in the stroller, she decides she wants to play with toys, and tries to run upstairs. I have to chase after her, carry her back to the stroller, where she proceeds in kicking me and screaming nooooooo, I want to play, I want to play. I promise her she can play when we get back home later, and it is a whole ordeal to get her in the stroller and her coat and hat on. (My kids inheritied my stubborn streak, what can I say? :) Later on, in the supermarket, after I had paid for the groceries, she threw off her coat and a shoe, and refused to let me put it back on her. I told her she would get cold, and wet (it was a bit rainy ouside) and pointed to the rain. She didn't seem to care, so I told her Grandpa will be very sad she won't wear the new shoes we got. That was the deal breaker for her and she put it on.
After that, we are crossing a major intersection in the pedestrian cross walk, to go home. We had the green light and pedestrian sign, and were crossing east to west. A mini van, going south against a red light crossed the intersection, forcing a few cars going through the green light to stop short, and the van almost went into us. It wasn't that close, but close enough I could see the driver pretty well. I was very shook up. Where are the police giving out tickets when you need them???? I should have taken her plate number down. She could have caused a variety of serious accidents G-d forbid by going through a red light. Very careless driving and very stupid. Who did she bribe to get her license from? sigh. Anyway, that is my vent for today.

On a brighter note, he is wearing his glasses now almost all day!!! :) B"H :) My dad, who was here visiting from New Jersey convinced him to wear the glasses. :) Yay :) Now his eye is not turning in anymore when he is wearing them, thank G-d. :)

And as an aside, my arm hurts :( My daughter and I got the flu shot yesterday, and now my arm is all red and swollen where the vaccine was given. Hmm...maybe that is why my daughter was not behaving well today..maybe she is having a side effect from the vaccine. I heard it can cause a mild flu like thing for a few days, sniffles, etc. Maybe she is just feeling under the weather today. My oldest is getting his flu shot tomorrow in school, and the baby has a cold, so he has to be cold free before he can get his vaccine.

Tomorrow is my cardiologist appointment for the pregnancy induced sinus tachycardia. It is a follow up appointment and I am not really worried about it. B"H I have not had many more episodes of it, and when I do it is usually because I have a cold or have not slept well the night before. I will post more later this week.
